1. Gorilla Permit Booking

• Where to Track Gorillas in Uganda:
  • Bwindi Impenetrable National Park: Home to several gorilla families across four sectors (Buhoma, Ruhija, Nkuringo, and Rushaga), in Uganda , its the most popular park for gorilla trekking located in the south western part of Uganda, most of travelers to Uganda go this park for gorilla trekking.
  • Mgahinga Gorilla National Park: Also offers gorilla trekking opportunities, this park has gorilla family ready for trekking every day . each gorilla family is allowed 8 people per group accompanied with  a ranger guide and porters

• Cost of Gorilla Permits in Uganda (as of 2025):

  • Standard Gorilla Trekking Permit: $800 for foreign non-residents, $700 for foreign residents, and UGX 300,000 for East African citizens.
  • Gorilla Habituation Experience: $1,500 per person (available in Bwindi only).

• How to Book:

  • Directly with UWA: Contact Uganda Wildlife Authority or phone to reserve your permit, or through us, tour operators are given first priority in getting the gorilla permit reserved than individuals : Many tour operators offer permit booking services as part of their packages or for a small service fee.
• Tips:
  • Book at least 3–6 months in advance, especially for peak seasons (June–September, December–February).
  • Provide your preferred trekking dates and location.
  • In Rwanda gorilla trekking is done in Volcanoes national park which is located in the northern part of Rwanda in Ruhengeri district.  and gorilla permits are sold at $1500/ person per trekking

2. Chimpanzee Permit Booking

  • Kibale National Park: Known as the primate capital of the world.
  • Budongo Forest (Murchison Falls National Park): Offers chimp tracking and habituation experiences.
  • Kyambura Gorge (Queen Elizabeth National Park): Smaller chimpanzee population.
  • Toro-Semliki Wildlife Reserve: Unique chimpanzee experiences.

• Cost of Chimpanzee Permits in Uganda:

  • Kibale National Park Tracking Permit: $250 per person.
  • Chimpanzee Habituation Experience (Kibale): $300 per person.
  • Other Locations (Budongo, Kyambura): $100–$150 per person.

• How to Book:

• Tips:

  • Chimpanzee permits are less competitive than gorilla permits but still book in advance for Kibale.
  • Include chimpanzee habituation if you want a longer, immersive experience.

1. Permits Are Non-Refundable: Once booked, permits cannot be refunded or rescheduled unless under exceptional circumstances.
2. Documentation: Carry your passport as proof of identity and citizenship when booking or during the trek.
3. Health Requirements: Trekking requires a certain level of fitness, and visitors with contagious illnesses like flu may be restricted to protect the primates.
